This play and its predecessor Elizabeth I were both original works performed in Santa Fe, NM. Ultra elaborate costumes were needed for the small thrust theater. Actors walked through the audience for entrances and exits and the costumes needed to be "heard" as well as seen with close up authenticity. Elizabethan dance numbers and a masked ball were also part of the challenge in addition to the usual fast changes and small space entrances. Special jewelers were hired to complete each costume by encrusting the costumes with ornate jewels, pins and necklaces. Some of the costumes weighed over 30 lbs.
